US-based Avery Dennison’s Retail Branding and Information Solutions business has introduced a new print & apply identification solution, LPA 81x, in a bid to increase performance and productivity throughout the global supply chain.

The new LPA 81x, powered by LightSmart Technology supports increased productivity and improves sustainability by reducing paper waste, water and energy usage. The technology labels are coated on the reverse with a non-tack adhesive and become sticky through heat activation after the print and cut.

Avery Dennison General Retail and Industrial Solutions vice president Dave Herring said if users switch 100,000m2 of PS labeling materials to LPA 81x, they have the potential to reduce water usage in half, energy usage by a quarter and waste footprint by about 65%.

"The ability to print labels with a backing paper-free solution enables our customers to improve productivity and efficiency while reducing environmental impact," Herring said.

Compared to traditional PS labels, the material has 60% and more material per roll and reduces backing paper production and waste, resulting in less transportation of materials and a reduction in the environmental impact on water, energy use, solid waste and CO2 emission.
