German carmaker Audi has reported 12.9% rise in its July 2012 sales to 119,600 cars, when compared to 105,993 cars for the same period in 2011.

European sales for Audi rose by 5.5% to nearly 60,800 vehicles and its sales in German market increased 10.7% to 23,712 units over the year ago period.

Audi reported 28% rise in its US sales to 11,707 cars, when compared to 9146 cars for the same period last year.

According to the company, the new generations of the A4 and A5 families, which went on sale at US dealers in June 2012, were particularly in demand.

Sales of the A4 models were up 51.7%, while the A5 models sales incraesed 31.9%.

The company handed over some 852,900 cars to customers in the first seven months of 2012, 12.4 % more than in the same period of 2011.

Audi chairman of the board of management Rupert Stadler said, "Following this successful start to the second half, we are expecting the new A3 to give us an extra lift over the coming months."
